Never Such Innocence Competition

On Tuesday 12th December, local singer/songwriter Marty Longstaff came into school and worked with the children to help them write their own song. They were then invited to the event launch to perform their song in front of some very important people! In attendance were Lord Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear Mrs S Winfield OBE and Mayor of Sunderland Cllr Doris McKnight!

On Thursday 14th of December, a group of our Year 5s and 6s represented our school at the launch of the ‘Never Such Innocence’ poetry and art competition at the Sunderland Minster. The event commemorated the First World War and our fantastic children performed their own original song titled ‘This Girl Can!’ inspired by the Women’s Royal Air Force.

It was a fantastic day and our children really shined. They loved being part of such an important event and were absolutely overjoyed to find out that our school had been tweeted about by the Sunderland music hub and the Never Such Innocence Twitter pages for doing such a fantastic job!

Well done to our Year 5s and 6s, you made us very proud (and even managed to make Miss Corney and Miss Moon shed a few tears at your performance!)

Let’s make sure that the winner of the Never Such Innocence competition 2018 is from Hasting Hill Academy!

We’ve also been tweeted about by the Sunderland Music Hub and the Never Such Innocence project’s twitter pages!
